About The 1st Guitar Days of İnönü University

Inönü University will realize “The 1st Guitar Days” on March 2008 by support of The Classical Guitar Society. The National Guitar Competition, the concerts from Turkish and foreign soloists, and the master classes will be involved in this activity to be held on 22 to 25 of March.

Today, İnönü University has now gained the status of becoming an art-centre in its region by means of the attacks it makes in each day passed. İnönü University realized the most outstanding investments in classical music and artistic activities in addition to the establishment of a conservatory, opening of a modern recording studio and forming an ensemble of the Bilkent Chamber Orchestra has aimed to organize a guitar festival as to diversify artistic activities and thus to make contributions to cultural and artistic life of the region it is located.

As a result, “The 1st Guitar Days of İnönü University” is configured within the scope of the project with a topic, “Importance of Guitar Arts in Artistic Enlightenment of Public” supported by the budget of the Unit for Scientific Studies Project. Arrangement and co-ordination of the project is committed by The Classic Guitar Society drawn attention with its workings oriented particularly to defragmentation and improving of Turkish guitar group such as to organize the “Guitar Meetings of Turkey”, the 2nd Congress of Association of Southeast European Guitarists (ASEG), various concerts and master classes up to today.

The occasion of opening the Guitar Days will, with the Anatolian Chamber Orchestra of İnönü University, be started with displaying a concert by “Terci-Korad duo” (Kürşad Terci-Kağan Korad) known as their local and international concerts they have performed. World premier of the performance named the “Concerto Fantasy” by Ceyhun Şaklar made ordered by the University as the festival’s special composition will be performed in addition to the Guitar-Orchestra arrangements prepared by this duo from the performances of Turgay Erdener and Fazıl Say. Other soloists of the Guitar Days will be Costas Cotsiolis, the worldwide guitar virtuoso; Bekir Küçükay, one of the most well-known guitarists of our country; our young generation guitarists Ozan Akyatan, "Duo Wanderer" (Can Denizci-Haydar Yahşi), and the famous guitar duo, "Amadeus Guitar Duo" (Dale Kavanagh-Thomas Kirchhoff). In the course of activity, free participation in the master classes to be given by George Schmitz, Director of "Koblenz Guitar Festival, Dale Kavanagh, Thomas Kirchhoff and Costas Cotsiolis will be available.

Not a few guitarists who are teachers in the schools in conservatory format in Turkey in addition to foreign guitarists will participate as jury members in the National Guitar Competition designed for two categories, minors and adults, in accordance with participation. Possibility of free accommodation and YTL 20.00 as a travel benefaction for all nominees of competition will be borne by İnönü University. The Competition having attractive awards such as various cash prizes, possibility of giving a recital and a concerto together with the orchestra in addition to a hand-made concert guitar by Arif Türker Gündoğdu, a guitar maker, is aimed to make contribution to the improvement of guitar in Turkey by encourage and support young guitarists.

It is certainly that “The 1st Guitar Days of İnönü University” of which any and all activities in the program could be attended free-of-charge will bring mobility and colour both in the university students, local people, and the guitar environment in Turkey.

We would like to thank Prof. Dr. Fatih Hilmioğlu both for his strong mind in implementing such ideas with his contemporary viewpoint with large vision and his confidence exhibited to us in realization of this festival emphasizing the role of a bridge between the Turkish community and classical music.

The items of expense anticipated to be borne by İnönü University for festival will be the

* Expenses for travel (by airway), bed and board, and cachet of performers,
* Expenses for travel (by airway), bed and board of invited jury members,
* Sum of YTL 20.00 as a travel benefaction plus accommodation for the competition nominees who will do final registration,
* Accommodation for our guitar makers, and an area in which they could exhibit their products,
* Accommodation within possibilities of University for the listeners from abroad of city, and
* Free participation in concerts and guitar master classes for all guests

• A hand-made concert guitar by Arif Türker Gündoğdu (to the value of EUR 2.000)

Note: Expenses of performers for travel, bed and board will be borne by the organizing party in any and all organization of concerts.

RULES OF COMPETITION

• Competitors will perform a free program of which musical period will be net 10 to 13 minutes during “Qualification Stage” of competition to be started at 10:00 AM on March 23.

• Competitors will perform a free program of which musical period will be net 15 to 18 minutes during “Final Stage” of competition to be started at 16.30 on March 24.

• During a final stage competitors will, if they require, be permitted for repetition of a performance of which its duration will not exceed 5 minutes. In case of repetition of a performance of not a few one, or with longer duration participation of a competitor will be deemed null and void.

• The official announcement of competition to all institutions and individuals will be started on December 24, 2007.

• The topics such as availability of creation of different age groups and how many competitors will be qualified will be finalized following coming out the number of participation and/or by the decision of jury, and will be announced thereafter.

• The nominees for competition are required to have been completed their final-registration until 09:30 AM on March 23, 2008 at the latest.

• The nominees for competition may do their pre-registration process via the website of www.gitardernegi.org of the CGS.

•  The nominees for competition are requested to deposit a Pre-registration fee of YTL 10 for Guitar Competition with the Account no. 35051498 of Faculty of Fine Arts, İnönü University at Malatya Branch of Ziraat Bank of Turkey.

• The nominees for competition will be paid over a travel benefaction of YTL 30 by İnönü University (Those who have not deposited the fee of YTL 10 during pre-registration will be paid over YTL 20).

• The nominees for competition will be provided with free accommodation providing possibilities of İnönü University. In case of over participation of nominees the right for accommodation will be recognized by taking the sequence of application (the date of bank receipt) into consideration, and nominees will be notified previously thereabout.

• Prizes will be announced during the ceremony to be carried out following finals on the evening of March 25, and prizes will be awarded thereafter.

• The first prize winner will display a performance of 15 minutes with the guitar s/he was awarded within the scope of festival.
